Great news – at least 200 objections have been lodged against this ridiculous over-development. Well done everyone!

But if you have not yet lodged your objection please be quick, closing date for objections could be any day now.

Below you will find links to the application and information on how to object.

—————————————————————————————————————

Former Newport Timber Yard (6 Paine St) Development

Massive 43 unit development, 3 and 4 stories high.

TIME TO OBJECT

Having previously been rejected by both Council and VCAT, the developer has made another application to council to develop this site.

Despite some minor changes the design remains essentially the same, but has now increased in the number of dwellings and height. The terrible impact on neighbourhood character, heritage, traffic, parking, and park amenity of this development remains the same.

This is what the developer wants to stick in the middle of our neighbourhood…

You can view the application and plans here.

If you oppose this development (and what it represents and sets precedents for) please support your neighbourhood by objecting to it as soon as possible, preferably before 10th November.

HOW TO OBJECT

Here are some aids to objecting, select the most convenient. Each person in your household can submit their own objection.

PRE-COMPLETED OBJECTION (MICROSOFT-WORD or PDF) – containing the most pertinent points and you can use it as a reference for completing the blank objection form or submitting an objection on Council’s planning system (Greenlight), or submit the pre-completed objection form itself.

COUNCILS PLANNING SYSTEM for online submission, go to the bottom of the page for objection form. Review the above pre-completed objection document for assistance and text you might want to use.

  1. Newport is all about community and access to wonderful parks and community resources.

People who want to live in Newport in new developments need to have the same access to housing that is community friendly; well designed, inclusive and which doesn’t force cars onto streets; block access to parks and create new wind tunnels.

  2. My Uncle Jim Gubbins spent endless hours with Council Hertiage people over many many years….
To have 16 Latrobe street restricted with house frontage, original hedges and fencing, original paint of house etc etc even though it is not a typical house of the era in the sense my grandfather designed the house different to the plans of the time…… The goal posts kept changing as council decided different things at different times… as a single person Jim tried to negotiate with Council… but still had to abide by their changing decisions against his wishes.

Now just down the street “Big money talks” and everything that stood before can go out the window at 6 Paine Street, Newport.

Having lived on and off at 16 Latrobe street… with 3 of the five generations there and in Crawford st….I am aghast the proposed development.

Even if I just focus on the numbers of dewellings and the traffic and car hazards that is enough to say NO !!!!!!!!!!!!! The people of the surrounding area will certainly pay greatly with the new tenants and their visitors parking outside their homes… I’m sure not one resident will be happy to have to walk distances to their own homes whilst “The Developement People” take up space outside their homes.
Council…. These roads are already conjested are you BLIND? Are you living in the area? Are you qualified to make the decisions you are making? Do you have the interest of the community? From the average person looking on these questions need to be answered… Does Big Money always have to win?

  3. Thanks for the reminder. Lodged my objection today. Hopefully, common sense will win out….

Hope to see you all at VCAT.

    Regards Nik Bebic

  4. This is a concrete monstrosity that will be a stigma to Newport’s landscape. Once it’s built it will never go away. For our children’s sake don’t let it become reality.
